چکیده
Abstract We present the first results from a new survey for high-redshift ( z ? 5) gravitationally lensed quasars and close quasar pairs. carry out candidate selection based on colors shapes of objects in public imaging surveys, then conduct follow-up observations to confirm nature high-priority candidates. In this paper, we report discoveries J0025–0145 = 5.07), which identify as an intermediately quasar, J2329–0522 4.85), is kiloparsec-scale pair. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image shows foreground lensing galaxy located 0.?6 away quasar. However, does not exhibit multiple images intermediate system (a that multiply imaged but has significant magnification). spectrum implies extreme Eddington ratio if luminosity intrinsic, could be explained by large magnification. HST also indicates tentative detection host rest-frame UV, illustrating power magnification distortion studies galaxies. Object consists two resolved components with significantly different spectral properties lack under subarcsecond seeing. it pair, highest confirmed pair date. four pairs at 2 < 4 discuss possible improvements our strategy.

The Reddest Quasars II. A gravitationally-lensed FeLoBAL quasar
We report the discovery of a z = 2.65 low-ionization iron broad absorption line quasar, FIRST J100424.9+122922, which is gravitationally-lensed by a galaxy at z ≈ 0.95. The object was discovered as part of a program to find very red quasars by matching the FIRST radio survey with the 2-MASS near-infrared survey. J100424.9+122922 is the second lensed system to be found in this program, suggestin...

A single-screen model of the gravitational lens system 2016+112 is proposed, that explains recent Hubble Space Telescope (HST) infrared (NICMOS–F160W) observations and new high-resolution European VLBI Network (EVN) 5–GHz radio observations, presented in this paper. In particular, we find that a massive 'dark' structure at the lens position, previously suggested by X-ray, optical and spectrosco...

متن کاملPMN J1838–3427: A new gravitationally lensed quasar
We report the discovery of a new double-image quasar that was found during a search for gravitational lenses in the southern sky. Radio source PMN J1838–3427 is composed of two flat-spectrum components, separated by 1 in VLA and VLBA images, with matching spectral indices. An HST/WFPC2 image reveals the lens galaxy between the components. The background object is a z = 2.78 quasar, but the reds...
متن کاملBinary Quasars at High Redshift I : 24 New Quasar Pairs at Z ∼ 3 − 4
The clustering of quasars on small scales yields fundamental constraints on models of quasar evolution and the buildup of supermassive black holes. This paper describes the first systematic survey to discover high redshift binary quasars. Using color-selection and photometric redshift techniques, we searched 8142 deg of SDSS imaging data for binary quasar candidates, and confirmed them with fol...
